NAIL FUNGUS

SYMPTOMS OF NAIL FUNGUS :
Toenail fungal infections are very common. The first signs of a fungal nail infection are the loss of shine of the nail, followed by a whitish, yellowish or gray-brown discoloration. Usually, there is no pain or other physical discomfort at this stage. If the fungus spreads further, the nail becomes thicker and rougher, and if left untreated, it can become increasingly brittle and become completely detached from the nail bed.

NAIL FUNGUS TREATMENT :
Fungal nail infections are not just a cosmetic problem. If left untreated, they can lead to complete loss of the affected nail. It is important to treat the infection right away to prevent the fungus from spreading to the surrounding skin. Nail fungus does not heal on its own and is contagious, making it a source of infection for others.

RISK GROUPS :
The following are particularly at risk of getting fungal nail infections:

  • diabetics
  • Sportsmen
  • People with circulatory disorders (e.g. peripheral arterial disease, smokers)
  • People with weakened immune systems
THREE FACTORS FOR EFFECTIVE NAIL FUNGUS TREATMENT :
1. Have regular foot care visits to remove the thickening and infection of the nails. This is important to allow antifungal products to work better and prevent the infection from spreading.

2.Apply a specific product for the treatment of nail fungal infections, such as an antifungal protective marker, morning and evening. After 4 weeks, it will be enough to apply it once a day, preferably in the evening.

3.Take preventive measures in daily life to make it difficult for the fungus to survive and improve the treatment efficacy.

TIPS TO PREVENT AND TREAT NAIL FUNGUS :
  • Use antifungal products consistently and regularly, as treatment takes time.
  • Make regular foot care visits.
  • Avoid using decorative nail polish on the affected nails.
  • Change socks daily and prefer natural materials such as cotton.
  • Wash socks and fabrics in contact with feet at temperatures of at least 60°C, even better 90°C.
  • Wear shoes that are breathable and not too tight.
  • Wash your feet thoroughly and dry the areas between the toes well.
  • Use slippers in public places (e.g. swimming pools, gyms, saunas, hotels).
  • Reduce sugar consumption, as mushrooms are particularly attracted to it.
  • Promote blood circulation with whirlpools and foot gymnastics.
  • Pay attention to the first signs of a new fungal infection and intervene promptly.
